THE DEITY OF THE MESSIAH

Matt.8:27, Mk.4:41, and Lk.8:25 contain the words " What manner of man is this "? This person that they were looking at had just performed a very notable miracle when He by His own power stilled a raging storm by a verbal command. In the sudden quietness they were gripped with fear. Matt.8:27 says they " marvelled " or wondered what just happened. They were not sure what was going on. Because of this Mk.4:41 says they " feared exceedingly ". Here they were terrified because what just happened was not normal. It was spooky. Lk.8:25 says they were "afraid". Here the greek word "phobeo" is the same word we get our english word phobia from.

As they searched for some way to figure this out they realized that there was no explanation and began to wonder, not WHO was this man but rather what kind of a man is this. They had no doubt been familiar with the miracles of Moses, Elijah, Elisha etc and they knew they were done by direction of God. But here was a man who commanded the storm to cease by His own command and the disciples rightly became seized with fear and wondered. Jesus said, " If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin..." - Jn.15:24.

So just who, and what manner of man was Jesus anyway. As Jesus asked His disciples, "Whom do men [others] say that I...am?" And followed up with the question, "But whom say YE that I am?" This is an important question which demands the right answer. For in answering this question there is no margin for error!
